Transcript:
Unofficial transcripts or academic records must be uploaded directly to the online application. Instructions for uploading transcripts are available here.
International students should also upload an English translation if the transcript is not in English. Click here for more information on international transcripts and credentials.
Please do not mail in paper copies of your transcripts, as this may cause serious delays in the processing of your application.
There is no need for official transcripts or academic records for initial review. If you are admitted, the University will then request official copies of this material. See the Graduate School's Application Information page for details.
Personal Statement:
Upload your statement of purpose in the "Applicant Statement" section (Statement #1). Mailed or faxed statements will not be accepted. There is no prompt for the statement of purpose, though help-text is provided in the application. You may upload other statements, but only one statement is required.
Preferred format for the statement of purpose: 12-pt font, 1-inch margins, single-spaced. Typical statement of purpose is 1-1.5 pages in length.
Recommendation Letter:
Three letters of recommendation are required, up to four may be submitted. Indicate your recommendation providers in the "Recommendations" section. The preferred method of receipt is online through the application system.
For Online Submission:
See here for instructions on how to request recommendation providers submit recommendations online. A link will be emailed to your writers with a unique identifier. They can then log in at their convenience to complete the brief University of MN recommendation form and upload their narrative evaluation as a PDF or Word document.
Applicants with online recommendation providers who have not yet submitted their recommendation are encouraged to re-notify their recommendation providers. Click here for instructions.
For Mail Submission:
You will need to provide your recommendation provider with a pre-stamped, pre-addressed envelope, as well as a blank copy of the University of MN Recommendation format. (This form can be downloaded in the “Downloadable Forms” section of your application.) Your recommendation provider should complete that form in addition to their narrative evaluation, and send directly to the department.
