【新词新意】mental trauma“精神创伤”.

　　四川汶川县大地震如今已经过去十几天，地震带给灾区人民的肉体伤痛会渐趋平复，但给灾民造成的精神创伤和心里阴影却难以抹去，尤其对于灾区儿童而言，地震远远未成“过去式”。据初步统计，目前地震孤儿已有4000多名。在地震中幸存的许多孩子少了曾经快乐而天真的笑容，儿童医生称，比身体更难痊愈的，是孩子们的心理。

　　Hospitals and clinics were destroyed along with so much else across Sichuan province in the quake, leaving acute shortages of staff and facilities. In the immediate aftermath, medical services have focused on treating crushed and broken bones, amputated limbs and on preventing disease outbreaks. Experts warn that mental trauma could be a hidden toll for many survivors.

　　在地震中，四川省内大部分医院和诊所都被毁，造成医务人员和医疗设备严重短缺。而紧随其后的医疗服务主要集中在治疗骨折、截肢以及防止传染病传播等方面。专家警告说，对很多幸存者来说，精神创伤很可能是一个潜在的威胁。

　　上述报道中，mental trauma就是“精神创伤”的意思，也可以用psychic trauma来表达同样的意思;那么，“心理创伤”就是psychological trauma。其实，trauma这个词既可以表示any physical damage to the body caused by violence or accident or fracture etc.(外伤)，也可以指an emotional wound or shock often having long-lasting fects(精神创伤)。心理学专家们针对受到精神创伤的幸存者提供的“心理援助”是psychological aid/assistance/help，心理援助的主要方式是psychological counseling(心理咨询)。
