American sci-fi adventure "After Earth" ruled China&aposs box office charts by raking in 87 million yuan (US$14.1 million) in the week ending July 14.
"Blind Detective," a thriller starring Hong Kong actor Andy Lau, came second in the charts, earning 79 million yuan, China Film News reported on Tuesday. The film tells the story of a veteran detective&aposs forts to help probe a murder case.
Jay Chou&aposs second film, "The Rooftop," released in Chinese theaters on July 11, came in third in the week, making 60 million yuan. The drama depicts the story of a poor man who falls in love with a celebrity.
Nor far behind was "Tiny Times," a drama inspired by author-turned-director Guo Jingming&aposs novel of the same name. It took in 49 million yuan.
Domestic sci-fi cartoon "Seer III" was fifth in the charts, taking 33 million yuan in the week.
