GMAT语法考试：that用法知多少.

　　大家都知道，在GMAT语法考试中that是非常重要的，如果用好了就会起到四两拨千斤的功效，那么that用法一共有几种呢?同学们应该怎么用?

　　1. 远指代词

　　“近指”——这是坦克菲尔德。

　　“远指”——那是豌豆家属。

　　如果按常理讲

　　This is Tankfield. That is Pea.

　　在GMAT语法考试中就算错。

　　GMAT语法考试规定，that表示远指时是充当定语的，也就是说，that后面要有名词中心语。所以需要这样表达：

　　This nonchalant heart is Tankfield.

　　That tender elegant lady is Pea.

　　此外，可以用在比较结构中。AB两项均有某物，A的该物与B的该物两相比较，用that of B指代前面已经交待过的该物，也是成立的。

　　The personality of Pea, unbelievable or not, is in fact far better than that of Tankfield.

　　2. 强调句 It is… that…

　　其中，that不可省略

　　It is fate that smiles at the rip-roaring roller coaster inside Pea's mind.

　　It is Tankfield’s indifference that Pea takes for granted.

　　It is out of love rather than pity that Pea persists in the Sisyphean pursuit.

　　3. 定语从句关系代词

　　a. 名词+that+定语从句的谓语动词

　　Tankfield boasts a heart that shows reluctance to accommodate Pea.

　　即先行词作为定语从句主语的情况，that不可省略。

　　b. 名词+that+定语从句的主语+谓语动词

　　Pea sometimes cannot help lamenting for the transience of youth that she has wasted on Tankfield.

　　即先行词作为定语从句宾语的情况，that可以省略。

　　4. 从属连词

　　a. 宾语从句

　　Pea is no longer afraid to acknowledge that her forts to win Tankfield will possibly remain in vain.

　　此处that不可省略。除非谓语动词是say：

　　Tankfield said she prerred spending time with a silk cocoon.

　　b. 主语从句

　　That Tankfield regards Pea as no different from others irritates Pea.

　　此处that不可省略。

　　当然，和主语从句比起来，GMAT语法更喜欢的是形式主语It：

　　It irritates Pea that Tankfield regards her as no different from others.

　　此处that亦不可省略。

　　c. 同位语从句

　　名词+that+完整句

　　that不可省略

　　The thought that there is no chance that Tankfield reads all that is written on that platform fuels Pea’s courage to write on.
