为了看懂这道题，我们先来梳理一下这道题的层次：
On a scale that measures the intensity of a certain phenomenon
这一个分句由On引导，that后面引导的那个从句修饰的是scale(刻度)，给大家解释了这个刻度的用途，是用来测量一个特定现象的。
a reading of n+1 corresponds to an intensity that is 10 times the intensity corresponding to a reading of n
这一句是主句，较复杂，要读懂一定要学会看对应关系。这一句最重要的是一个10倍的关系，很多同学都在头痛是哪两个成分有着倍数对应，其实，中间的内容才是倍数的对应结构，如下：
