　　详解：首先题目有两个重要的信息，一是Subway ridership is projected to increase by 20 percent over the next 10 years. 二是为了应对这种增加The Merryville Transit Authority plans to increase the number of daily train trips by only 5 percent over the same period。 乍一看就会觉得，ridership增加了20%可是number of daily trains只增加了5%，这怎么够呢?但是Officials说足够了。问加强

　　那么加强的方向自然就是解释为什么增加5%就足够了。

　　D选项大部分的ridership的增加是off-peak hours when trains are now sparsely used，注意sparsely稀少地，贫乏地意思，这里就是说在这个非高峰时期train是很少被使用的，因此这个ridership虽然是增加了20%之多，但是由于大部分的增加是处于这个本来不怎么使用train的时间，所以只增加5%的number of daily trains就足够应对了，因此支持了结论。
