多种角度理解词义 GRE词汇备考如是说.

　　相比于雅思、托福等考试GRE考试的最大特点就是词汇量大，备考GRE至少需要8000的词汇量。然而掌握词汇的数量并不是GRE高分的关键，对词汇不仅要懂词义还要会分析，这才是GRE考试能否取得高分的关键。

　　古语云：管中窥豹、可见一斑。今天我们就阅读题目中最简单的词汇题，为大家展示一下新GRE词汇的含义是如何受到语境的影响的。 例如：

　　14. In the context in which it appears, “fine” (line 7) most nearly means

　　A acceptable

　　B elegant

　　C precise

　　D pure

　　E small

　　看到这道题，也许英语还不错的同学都会开始鄙视ETS了。这个fine 大概上小学一年级小学生也能认识吧。可是，浏览完选项，又犹豫了。因为选项中实在找不到一个“好”相关的单词啊。难道要优雅地选elegant吗?可是答案真的不是啊。要正确理解，我们只能回归原文：

　　A piece of first-year ice will taste salty. Eventually, if the ice survives, these pockets of brine drain out through fine, veinlike channels, and the ice becomes fresher; multiyear ice can even be melted and drunk.

　　这里的fine 在句子中很明显修饰了名词 channel(通道)，限定channel 这个词的还有前面动词drain, 其解释为flow off gradually(慢慢地渗出)呢，那么从什么样的通道里才能“慢慢地渗”出去呢，必定是“小”的通道吧。所以答案就选small喽。

　　让我们看看官方解释是怎样的：

　　“Fine” appears in the context of an explanation of how the brine drains out; in such a context, it must be being used to describe a physical characteristic of the channels. In addition, the word “Eventually” implies that the draining is a slow process. Only Choice E, “small,” helps to explain why the process is slow and is therore the best choice. None of the other choices contributes to the explanation.

　　另外，换个角度看语境，channel 这个词还有另一个限定词呢，那就是“veinlike”(像血管一样的)，像血管一样的必然也可以理解为细小的呢。
