　　建筑形态学研究的是变化的文化和环境条件如何产生建筑形式变化。当应用到位于现在美国西南部那些展现出17-18世纪西班牙殖民地建筑风格那些新墨西哥教堂时，建筑形态学展现了很多关于美国土著文化是如何改变西班牙传教士们的欧洲教堂建筑风格的，而这些传教士原本想讲那些土著人传化成基督徒。
