SAT 写作素材使用说明:
第一步:浏览所有素材名单和简单的中文介绍,按照自己的偏向喜好挑选4-6个人物。特别要注明的是,希望本书能帮助考生们开启灵感的阀门,如果在浏览的过程中想到更多的例子,建议自行进行整理。
第二步:对于所挑选人物,仔细阅读英文介绍部分,按照主题把其中相关内容单独整理出来。思考例子和某一类SAT题目的联系。(要注意的是:例子的整理不是以人或者事件为单位,而是以主题作为划定标准。)当然前提是大家要对SAT题目有基本的了解。
第三步:每个主题的论据都整理全面后,就可以开始按照典型题目去写段落,刚开始可以找一些相对来说简单的题目进行练习。注意:SAT写作如果出现语言雷同,会被判为剽窃,被取消考试成绩。所以请一定不要直接整句或者大段地照抄本书内容。当然,这一点也同样适用于任何公开出版物以及网络资料。

著名的马太效应出自《圣经》,由社会学家Robert Merton首次提出,其基本内容是有优势的一方会越来越有优势,而较弱的一方会越来越弱。从另一方面讲,人每获得一点成功,都会产生累积优势,使之拥有更大的机会获得更卓越的成就。马太效应也是造就了社会贫富差距的原因之一。
The phenomenon where “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer” is called the Matthew fect. Literally, Matthew fect rers to the cumulative advantage of economical capital, but its typical usage is related to social status and fame. First introduced by sociologist Robert Merton, Matthew fect took its name from a famous line in the Gospel of Matthew, “For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken even that which he hath.” (注: hath== have)
Robert Merton’s original thesis was on scientific research, where famous scientists tend to get more attention than unknown scientists. The so-called Matthew fect are especially obvious when amore and a less famous scientist together make a similar discovery. In such cases, Merton argued that the more well-known scientist received a higher share of the credit for the discovery. He stated “Eminent scientists get proportionately great credit for their contributions to science while relatively unknown scientists tend to get disproportionately little credit for comparable contributions.”
An analogy of Matthew fect on research is psychologist Stanovich’s discovery called Matthew fect in education. Stanovich applied the general version of Matthew fect on education and stated a theory on new knowledge acquisition, which was, “early success in acquiring reading skills usually leads to later successes in reading as the reader reads more material. However, the failing to learn to read bore the third or fourth grade in school may cause a lifelong problem in learning new knowledge.” The reason behind such phenomenon is that when children fall behind in reading, he or she would read less, increasing the gap between them and their peers.
