We have adopted the relentless pace of the very machines that were supposed to simplify our lives, with the result that, whether at work or play, people do not feel like their lives have changed for the better.

　　Assignment:Do changes that make our lives easier not necessarily make them better? Plan and write an essay in which you develop your point of view on this issue. Support your position with reasoning and examples taken from reading, studies, experiences, or observations.

　　看到这个话题很多同学第一反应是要写“科技”，因为这是给的提示信息中所涉及到的相关内容，但实际上，我们真正要做的是Assignment，而并非提示信息和SAT写作题目，提示信息仅仅是要帮助你进行思考。当然有一种例外的情况是你被明确要求对提示信息做出回应。

　　接下来，同学们要做的就是如何正确理解Assignment。我们可以将Assignment进行分解，至于如何进行分解，我们依旧举例说明。

　　Assignment:Is conscience a more powerful motivator than money, fame or power?

　　我们可以从文章话题中找到两个概念，一个是“conscience” ，另一个是 “money, fame or power” 。所以，这个话题最后分解为两个问题 “does conscience show up in stories?” 和does “money, fame, or power” show up in stories?我们可以列出相关图书和历史事件，比如《罗密欧与朱丽叶》《蝇王》《安提戈涅》《杀死一只知更鸟》等。以《罗密欧与朱丽叶》为例，似乎没有什么相关素材，故事情节就是罗密欧和朱丽叶相遇、相爱、结婚以及自杀。但我们深思一下“conscience”的含义，它的意思就是要作对的事情，而罗密欧和朱丽叶一直在作对的事情，我们可以整理思路如下：

　　1.Romeo and Juliet met and fell in love.

　　2.They knew their families wouldn't like this. (popularity)

　　3.So they got married in secret. (doing the right thing in their mind)

　　4.This shows that people will follow their consciences instead of doing what is popular.

　　根据以上思路整理段落如下：

　　One example that proves that people are motivated more by conscience than by other factors such as popularity and fame is that of Romeo and Juliet in the play by William Shakespeare "Romeo and Juliet". In this play the two lovers meet, fall in love, and get married in secret even though they knew their warring families would disapprove. Romeo and Juliet did these things because they loved each other so strongly that these actions seemed like the right things to do. Their example shows that people are often motivated by inner drives like love and conscience much more than they are by fame or popularity.

　　罗密欧和朱丽叶的例子很有力地论证了观点：People are more motivated by conscience than they are by other factors。如果其他段落也写得好的话，SAT写作很容易拿到10到12分。
