Dear ***, *****************************.... As you know, there are many levels of universities in the U.S. What are your ideas on where (regions) and at what level you would be interested? How would you rate your English (don't under estimate your abilities, Americans do not like people to under estimate themselves)? Have you done any investigations of U.S. biology department? As you may know, American graduate school is quite different from Chinese graduate school. The primary requirement is to find a school and more importantly, a professor, who is doing work/research in areas your are interested in. This is especially important in the sciences. Yes GRE scores are important but the problem is that Chinese students get really good GRE scores but are often not able to make the transition to American style of education. It's really important to write a really good application essay. And in the sciences make some email contact with professors at the schools you're interested in.
