Introduction
Aloha! Founded in 1949, Hawai Preparatory Academy (HPA) is one of the premier independent, co-educational college-preparatory boarding and day schools in the Pacific Region offering a full range of academic and extracurricular opportunities for 575 students in grades K-12. The school is located on two campuses encompassing 228 acres in the heart of world-famous Parker Ranch on the Big Island of Hawai . HPA offers a boarding option for students in grades 6-12, and draws its diverse student body from the Hawaiian Islands, 16 other states and U.S. territories, and 12 other countries.

  • Students pursue an ambitious, well-rounded course of studies in small classes taught by a dedicated, highly professional faculty using the latest in educational technology. The challenging academic curriculum takes advantage of Hawai geographic and social setting to give students a strong sense of Hawai and its culture. The marine science program, in collaboration with NOAA, National Marine Fisheries Service, Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, offers unrivaled encounters with the island remarkable ocean environment. Partnerships with its high-tech neighbors such as the Mauna Loa Observatory enable participation in real-world, cutting edge research Offerings also include programs in the visual and performing arts as well as an Upper School interscholastic athletic program that stresses school-wide participation and teaches the values of sportsmanship and fair play. About 98 percent of graduates enter college in the fall following their high school graduation. Many choose colleges in the western United States, favoring such schools as Lewis & Clark College, Pomona College, Santa Clara University, Stanford University, University of Southern California, and the Universities of California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington. Others seek experiences farther east at such institutions as Amherst College, Boston University, Bowdoin College, Brown University, Carnegie Mellon University, Columbia University, Cornell University, George Washington University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Vanderbilt University. HPA is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of 12 educational organizations including the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education, College Entrance Examination Board, Council for Spiritual and Ethical Education, Cum Laude Society, National Association of College Admission Counselors, Hawai Association of Independent Schools, and National Association of Independent Schools.
