　　Aaron Zdawczyk:They are outstanding, ah, I think transferring is different, because you know, we have small spaces, transferring students are a different story about why they are live in somewhere, that you know transferring students come from best universities, and some come from community colleges. Due to a limited place, we have limited bunk spaces, it could be seventy, it could be hundred and twenty, we don’t know year to year and that is makes it very competitive. We still want to see a good high school record and a very strong college record which is very important, so you know; a lot of times witness that US education done well. A transferring education is important to students who are not very satisfied with the current education they receive in their countries.

　　Since the undergraduate education system is different between United States and China, how do you evaluate the college transcript and credits of Chinese transfer applicants? Is it a key to determine their admission?

　　Aaron Zdawczyk:Ah, credits evaluations are done by Registrar’s Office when you are to be admitted to the school, we do accept most universities, you know, credits must meet our standards and criterions.

　　What do you expect from a transferring application essay?

　　Aaron Zdawczyk:Number one, what they think we want to know is not expected. You must write something you care about. We do care about what your English level and you ability of put all of thoughts together and concise into good essay, such skill is what we looking for. It is not just topic but what’s the writing itself. The other thing is not only describe the things you can see but also tell us what symptom you can analysis in china, and why you can feel in this way. That is key thing students miss in the essay. The topic also need mature. Such topic as showing the collection of doll is all right, but I can not see what you can bring to our campus. You don’t need to write how to resolve the peace of the world but you can write something about your neighbor what happen to them and how old Beijing changed into modern city.

　　为什么只有极少数的国际转学生被美国西北大学录取?他们不够优秀吗?很多中国学生对知识的渴求在中国根本无法实现，而赴美留学，接受更好的教育是他们梦寐以求的事情。

　　Mr. Zdawczy: 他们确实很优秀，但我想转学是另一回事。首先，我们的教学资源有限。学校占地面积有限，所以宿舍床位也有限，可能是70，或者是120，年年都有差别，而且竞争越来越激烈。 其次，转学生的背景各不相同，有些来自顶尖大学，而有些来自社区大学。 我们还是倾向于高中成绩优秀，大学成绩也很有竞争力的申请人，这很重要。很多事实证明美国的教育很不错。而转学对于那些对国内教育不满的国际转学生来说确实很重要。

　　鉴于美国和中国的本科生教育体制是不同的，西北大学是如何评估中国转学生的本科成绩单和学分的? 这种评估会决定最终的录取结果吗?

　　Mr. Zdawczyk: 学分评估是在我们做出录取决定前，交由学校的注册办公室处理的，我们认可大多数国外大学的成绩单，但对学分我们有自己的标准。

　　西北大学期待转学生提交什么样的申请essay呢?

　　Mr. Zdawczyk: 首先，美国西北大学的申请人所考虑的往往不是我们想知道的。必须要写自己关心的事情。我们当然关注申请人的英语水平以及用英文把自己的想法整合成一篇简洁流畅的essay的能力，这是我们所期待的。不仅仅是选题，文章本身也很重要。其次, 申请人不仅要描述所见所闻，还要针对中国的现实进行分析，并加以解释，这是申请人最容易忽略的部分。另外，所选的话题也要成熟一些，像自己的玩偶收藏这个话题本身没有什么，但这完全无法反映申请人能对我们做出什么贡献。申请人不用在essay中描述自己如何实现世界和平，但他们可以谈谈自己邻居身上发生了什么事情，或者北京这座古城是如何变成一座现代化的城市的。
