　　“Anything they can do, I would do it better!” I like this motto very much, because my schooling-year has proved the truth of it again and again. To some extent, you can say my schooling–year is a zigzag road, on which I have experienced successes and frustrations. However, I have never regretted for my decision of driving on this road to get to the desired destination where my dream lies in –to be an expert in the Industrial Engineering, to make my hometown more prosperous.

　　I was born in Liaoning Province, which is located in Northeast China –an industrial city. Such a growth environment has endowed me with the character of strong will and my strong interest in industrial engineering, which influence me a lot in my schooling. Being an excellent student in Middle School, I was admitted to high school as the top one student in our city. Therore, I was proud of myself and had a sense of superior to other students in my grade and thus “relaxed” in my study for a while, which finally led to my failure in the exams consecutive twice. Later, the head teacher had a deep talk with me. At that time, I really had the thought of giving myself up, for it was too difficult for me to catch up with others again. However, I didn’t live in the shadow of failure for a long time. After a period of rlection, I revalued my merits and shortcomings carully and made a detailed schedule for my study. To all people’s surprise, I became the top 8 (1000 in all), which was also beyond my expectation. From that time on, I worked even harder and was matriculated to Tianjin University (the first university in modern China) as the top three student of my high school, and my major ranks the top one all across the universities in China. Such an experience made me have a better understanding ofthe motto that nothing is impossible as long as I try my best and never give up easily.

　　During my undergraduate program, I have laid a solid foundation in Industrial Engineering which is the starting–point for my present application for a more advanced degree program. My strong academic interest, combined with my devoted forts to coursework and fective learning strategies made me perform well on my subjects, especially my major coursework and the GPA of which is 84.18/100. Although my overall GPA is not very high, I have been making progress step by step all the way. I think the spirit of pursuing the limit of my life is of great importance to me.

　　Due to my excellent major course performance, I was involved in a big project under the guidance of Pro. xxx on “Optimizing the Medical System in Baodi Hospital”, which was an unusual honor for an undergraduate student, for the other members were all graduate students. In this project, I was mainly in charge of conducting investigations and writing project requisition and the suggestion paper. The research methods we adopted were as follows:

　　1) Conducting an investigation, combined with ISO9001: 2000 quality manual, program document and parts of the case documents, by talking with principals of different departments, to have a general idea about the responsibilities of each department and the daily working process.

　　2) Conducting a follow-up investigation with the doctors and nurses in paediatric and ophthalmic department to get the hospitalization process information;

　　3) Talking with the patients to get the information about clinic process;

　　4) Collecting information on the working process of emergency, medicament and instrument;

　　5) Obtaining the information on staff employment and quality management process;

　　6) Taking the operations on appendicitis and pneumonia cases as samples to analyze the hospital fees and the difference between diagnosis and treatment process to the same symptom.

　　After our comprehensive analysis to the result of the investigation, we gave some advice on how to optimizing medical system by improving the clinic and the purchasing process as well as standardizing the hospitalizing process to provide a better service for patients. Complicated as it was, I was really attracted by practical application of what I have learned from lectures and textbooks. In this project, the basic theories and methods of industrial engineering were fully applied; the difference just lies in the flexible application of the knowledge in concrete field. It made me have a deeper understanding of my major and have the desire to further my study for a more advanced degree due to my insufficient knowledge about it. I think only when I put the theoretical knowledge is into practice I can know how well I have mastered it.

　　Fascinated on study, yet I did not limit myself to coursework. To enrich my life, I participate in many activities. For example, I am the chairman of the Student Union and director of the Human Resource of Science & Technology Association. The good communication and organization skills make me a popular person on our campus. As a basketball fan, I am also a member of the basketball association of our school, and we often hold tournaments on our campus or match with the competitors from other schools. By teamwork, our association always wins the tournaments. Such extracurricular activities have indeed made my life more colorful and made me develop my all –round abilities.

　　Now, on the verge of completing my undergraduate program in Industrial Engineering, realizing that my undergraduate studies had only exposed me to the relatively fundamental knowledge of this subject, I want to embark on another journey to further my study in a more advanced country where I can have a systematical study on the subject I like. I will come back to China after completing my Ph.D. and run a company of my own. At that time, I will make a full use of what I have acquired to contribute to motherland, especially to my hometown.

　　I believe that the combination of continuing desire for self-improvement, increased learning, combined with my insistence on approaching problems with both reason and practical application, and thus to lay new paths with new ideas, is my dining character. After a long time of investigation, I found xxxx is the ideal place for me. For your diverse and professional curriculum, above all, the distinguished faculty, all of which are appealing to me. I think my all-round abilities; especially the research ability will be greatly enhanced by studying in your esteemed university, which will be of great importance to my future career development. I will stick to my choice.
