We live in the nature which is full of mystery and vitality. With the development of humanity&aposs evolution, more and more new diseases have come out. They seriously threaten and hinder the people&aposs normal life, and also bring much inconvenience to the people. Among them, orthopedics disease and wound influence the people&aposs quality of life as well as movement ability much more seriously. Due to technical progress, more and more traffic accidents and sports injuries, deep research on orthopedics disease caused by congenital gene abnormity and acquired idiopathic factors, there was a good development chance for the orthopedics science. It is no doubt that it is a popular science with a huge space to explore. Therore, I am determined to scale a higher height in this field.
Recently, orthopedics research has been greatly expanded, ranging from the cellular level to the whole body level. One of the most important research focuses is a probe into the relationship between biology and mechanics. Emerging information about genetic basis of bone and cartilage pathology is used to provide insight into the fundamental mechanism of common conditions, Such as osteoporosis and degenerative arthritis. Other ardent areas of investigation include tissue engineering, biomaterial, tendon healing, and biomechanical properties of tissue at the microscopic level. Interdisciplinary research currently affords a partly unrealized potential to relate the mechanical environment to biological responsiveness. New approaches include iterative computational modeling (finite element analysis) allowing model parameters at the microscopic level, micro-mechanics, and relatively long-term in vivo manipulation of the mechanical environment. The field of orthopedic biomechanics is widely researched and has led to improved surgical procedures in such areas as bone & tendon grafting, joint replacement, and limb supports.
I was fond of orthopedics for a long time, In 1997, I was enrolled in Medical College xx at University with excellent performance. With a born interest in sports, I participated in the Martial Art Association of our school. Due to my hard-working endeavor of putting all my spare time in practice, I got the remarkable achievement in this field. My weight lost 30kg after three years’ training. Later, I have obtained the second-class group prize in College Martial Art Festival in xx Province. My Shadowboxing and plum boxing have reached the professional standards and I became the president of Martial Art Association in xx University. As I was often affected by injuries during my exercises and performances, I developed a great interest in preventing and treating the injuries brought by sports. Therore, I decided to pursue a higher training in orthopedics in the postgraduate study and became a student of Chi Professor of xx provincial committee of articular surgery. During my postgraduate program, I did a lot of researches and published some papers. In my spare time, I worked as teaching assistant for my supervisor directing the students’ experiments. Meanwhile, I took a lot of internship in orthopedics department at xx hospital affiliated to xx University. During this process, I accumulated lots of research and clinical experience and I published a paper about Animal Experiment about Hydrazine Cross-Linking Hyaluronate Membrane Preventing Peritendon Adhesion. In order to research the difficult topic on postoperative & trauma-inducing adhesion, I read many related materials and literatures. By doing the experiments and researches repeatedly, I found that under the polarized microscope with sirus-picric specific staining, the alignment and ratio changing of collagen I/III could be clearly observed. However, this approach had never been used in Tendon adhesion research and no successful case had been presented, which brought a lot of inconvenience to my research. Through repeated experiments and research, I confirmed its final fect. Then my professor and I developed Hydrazine Cross-Linking Hyaluronate Membrane, Moreover, we made constant change and supplement to it. Finally, we obtained the expected treatment results with the third generation of the membrane. And with electron microscopy and specific staining, we received satisfactory morphologic observation results. Of course, we met some problems in the experimental process, for example, after cutting the rabbit’s soleus tendons and sutured them, and then I used the plaster to fix the hind legs. However, after operation, the plaster was gnawed by the animals which led to tendon rupture and the experiment’s failure. Realized such problem, we had the lateral tendon of rabbit’s soleus muscle traumatized with modified Rothkopf and Perterson methods which could produce a severe contusion on tendons. Simultaneously I made the rabbit spinal cord damage which leaded to an experimental paraplegia, the lower limb losing the movement ability and guaranteeing the satisfying experiment model. Moreover, when we made the slices in the pre-experiment, we found all of those were transections of collagen by cutting along the transverse axis. And we changed it into cutting along the longitudinal axis after analysis and clearly observed the arrangement & distribution of collagen fibers. In order to observe its influence on epidural membrane membrane, we also used this membrane in vertebral canal after spinal cord damage. But it’s a pity that we didn’t finish the experiment due to the shortage of fund.
After finishing the graduate study, I worked as a resident doctor in Bone & Joint Center of xxx Hospital in xx Province and our department is also the branch center of xx university arthrosis institute. Many young athletes who are plagued by sports injuries have become my main clinical triage patients because the athlete training center and physical education college of xx Province are right opposite to our hospital. Meanwhile, we would receive hundreds of patients who suffered from arthroplasty. Through the graduate studies and clinical experience, I realized that for the orthopedics and sports wound patients, the biomechanics was the foundation of diagnosis and treatment plan while adopting the operation, recovery or physical therapy. We could not find the most ficient way to solve the problem until we considered it form the basic. Only by further research of biomechanics, we could understand the orthopedics more systemically and make great achievements in this domain. I am very interested in this area and hope to continue my research about it. But the knowledge that I grasp is far from enough to do further research, meanwhile, China could not provide me with advanced equipments and enough funds. So I want to go to a country with better technical condition to continue my learning and research. After my carul investigation, I found that your academic reputation ranked best among U.S.A. in Biomechanics. So no doubt that in your department I could improve much more both in theoretical knowledge and practical operation with the guidance of qualified teachers, excellent professors, plus the good environment and various advanced research facilities and so on. Therore, I choose your school. I believe that I can make great achievements in the field of biomechanics through learning in your department.
