Part 1

l IELTS_Speaking_Part2 and 3

We grew up interacting with the physical objects around us. There are an

enormous number of them that we use every day. Unlike most of our

computing devices, these objects are much more fun to use. When you talk

about objects, one other thing automatically comes attached to that thing, and that is gestures: how we manipulate these objects, how we use these objects in everyday life. We use gestures not only to interact with these objects, but we also use them to interact with each other. A gesture of "Namaste!", maybe, to respect someone, or maybe , in India I don't need to teach a kid that this

means "four runs" in cricket. It comes as a part of our everyday learning.

So, I am very interested, from the beginning, that how our knowledge about

everyday objects and gestures, and how we use these objects, can be

leveraged to our interactions with the digital world. Rather than using a keyboard and mouse, why can I not use my computer in the same way that I interact in the physical world?

1. enormous number of 大量的

There were few fishing ships on the sea in 1900 when enormous number of fish swam freely; in contrast, in 1995 a large fleet of fleet of ships were endeavoring to search for the only fish in the sea.

2. device n.

3. automatically adv. 自动地

4. come attached to 和……

Everything you see here stands alone in the room. It doesn’t come attached to the walls.

5. manipulate v.

6. interact with 与……

These two chemicals interact with each other at a certain temperature.

7. be leveraged to 被用于……

1. Rather than using a keyboard and mouse, why can I not use my computer in

the same way that I interact in the physical world?

Theme1: background of explorations about interacting in the physical world

1 Why the speaker say that ”Rather than using a keyboard and mouse, why can I not use my computer in the same way that I interact in the physical world?”
