Research Officer (Spatial Analyst)

LSE Cities is seeking a Research Officer to provide fective quantitative, multi-scale spatial analysis on cities with a strong emphasis on GIS and statistical methods. This role primarily relates to a new research project on ‘Resource Urbanisms’ supported by the LSE Kuwait Programme and investigating the divergent patterns of urban development in four Asian cities: Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Hong Kong and Singapore. The project’s point of departure is the common assumption that cities and urban development are directly affected by the availability and costs of natural resources, and that in turn, different forms of urban development result in substantial differences in resource use. The project will primarily focus on the specific case of two natural resources, land and energy, and explore their relationships with city form, urban dwelling and mobility. This role includes an association with the LSE Kuwait Programme and may also include spatial analysis which supports other LSE Cities research projects.

You must have a completed or nearly completed, Ph.D. in Geography, Urban Science, Spatial Economics, Urban Planning or a related discipline with a strong focus on advanced GIS analytical techniques. Substantial experience in advanced analysis and management of GIS datasets for research purposes and a proven track record in complex data collection and statistical research, as well as experience of advanced mapping techniques and 3D visualisations are essential for this post.
