2016年美国研究生工业工程专业解析

一、学位设置：美国工业工程研究生专业一般分为两种学位，分别是理学硕士master of science和工程硕士master of engineering。 Master of science 在课程设置上基础理论的课程偏多，master of engineering工程技术的课程偏多。也可以理解为master of science是走科学家路线，为在本科阶段没有思考清楚是否读博，但在研究生学位之后可以继续攻读博士学位，也可以选择就业，而master of engineering则大多是在研究生阶段的学习完成后就直接进入工作岗位，加州伯克利除外，它的master of science是一个终端学位，原则上不会升入到PH.d. （The M.S. is a terminal degree, meaning that students enrolled in the M.S. program are not expected to continue further into the IEOR Ph.D. Program.）。一般情况下研究生毕业后直接就业的话master of engineering的就业渠道要多于master of science的学生。

二、细分方向：

●UC Berkeley master of engineerin有三个细分方向，分别是Decision Analytics /Simulation Modeling /Risk Management Finance。

Decision Analytics Provides students with a broad understanding of cutting-edge approachesto quantitative analysis and managerial decision-making applicable across a wide range ofindustries.

Risk Management Finance Prepares students for careers in finance, energy, and otherindustries where risk management is critical.

Simulation Modeling Prepares students for careers as analysts focusing on production anddistribution systems, service systems, product or process design, or marketing in a wide range ofindustries.

备注：根据秋季或者春季入学时间的不同还必须提前参加暑期或者寒假的加强课程，以2015年秋季入学和2016年春季入学为例，参加的时间为ORIENTATION/SUMMER LEADERSHIP INTENSIVE AUGUST 16-25, 2015以及WINTER LEADERSHIP INTENSIVE JANUARY 4-15, 2016。

●UC Berkeley master of science 也包括三个下设方向分别是： Financial Systems Track/Simulation and Decision Technology Track/Operations Research Track。Students must also register for and attend the department s Monday seminar for at least one unit in one semester. In addition, the student must pass a comprehensive examination, complete a capstone project, or write a thesis. The comprehensive exam is generally offered towards the end of every semester. Students opting to write a thesis must complete 20 units of work (excluding the thesis).

三、课程设置：以UC Berkeley master of engineering为例着重培养以下三个方面的能力：
1、Leadership Breadth: Gain the broad set of management, leadership and communication skills you need to lead technology enterprises and ventures with our core leadership curriculum, common for all students in the program. (8 units)
2、Capstone Experience: Your team capstone project analyzes and addresses an industry challenge to integrate the core curriculum with your technical coursework. (5 units)
3、Technical Depth: Deepen your technical expertise with coursework in your engineering area, chosen from among 19 concentrations in new and emerging technologies. (12 units)

因此课程设置包括：

●其它的有代表性的工业工程课程，以乔治亚理工为例，需要选择10门课程：包括6门核心课程+2门技术选修+2门任意选修课程。6门核心课程中有三门是规定必修：ISYE 6201 - Manufacturing Systems，ISYE 6202 - Warehousing Systems，ISYE 6203 - Transp Supply Chain Sys。另外3门分别从5门课中选出，分别是ISYE 6225 - Engineering Economy，ISYE 6414 - Regression Analysis，ISYE 6644 Simulation，ISYE 6650 - Probabilistic Models，ISYE 6669 - Deterministic Optimiz。

四、是否需要毕业论文：

一般情况下分为两种。一种是不需要写毕业论文，但是要通过所有的考试或者完成一个研究生项目，虽然每一年的考试结构会有所变化，但是主旨是为了考察学生对于课程的掌握程度。以下就是加州伯克利的两种毕业选择：

Master of Science Plan I (Thesis):

Students may complete the requirements by writing a thesis, rather than taking a Comprehensive Examination. The course requirements under the thesis option are the same as under the Comprehensive option. Under the thesis option, the minimum unit requirement of regular course work is 20 units, not including the thesis. A committee of three professors, including one from outside the IEOR Department, will be formed to guide and approve the thesis.

The Comprehensive Exam or Project (Plan II):

In addition to course and waiver exam requirements, students are required to complete one of

two options: a comprehensive exam or a Master's project and oral presentation of this project. The structure of the comprehensive exam may vary from year to year, but is designed so that students whose curriculum includes 12 units of graduate courses in the major and satisfies the group distribution listed above should be prepared to take the exam. At the current time, the comprehensive exam consists of a short oral presentation, to a panel of two or three faculty, of a solution to a case study, for which the students will be given at least two weeks to prepare,followed by relevant questions from the faculty panel.

五、学分设置和完成学业时间：一般的是24至39个学分之间，按照一学期修12个学分左右，完成学位需要一年至2年。比如威斯康辛麦迪逊最少可以修满24个学分即可，佐治亚理工、密西根安娜堡和康奈尔则要求30个学分，华盛顿西雅图要求修购39个学分。

六、学费：专业排名在30之前的学校，根据学校位置及热门程度不同，一般学费是在27，000＄到55，000＄之间。例如近两年比较热门的密歇根安娜堡秋季一学期的学费是22，473＄，伊利诺伊香槟分校一年半学费是53，474＄。
